Spice Market at the W Hotel, London has announced the launch of Sushi Bar @ Spice Market in honour of Executive Chef Peter Lloyd’s travels to sister restaurant Spice Market, Doha. Working alongside Peter Lloyd for the project is acclaimed sushi chef Mohamed Didi, together serving up a selection of classic sushi & sashimi, and a list of sake cocktails.
Located just next to the W Hotel, sandwiched between Leicester Square and China Town, Spice Market is filled with a suited and booted clientele, enjoying a cocktail after a hard day’s work. The Sushi Bar is located at the back of the restaurant and is lit up in comparison to the rest of the space, allowing you to see the sushi being freshly made right in front of your eyes.
Our waiter recommended a Ginger Margarita to start, which we enjoyed whilst perusing the menu, a selection of popular offerings from Doha such as crispy shredded crab, shrimp tempura and the signature Spice Market roll, as well as BBQ eel, tuna and shrimp from the sushi & sashimi section, all listed alongside a selection of offerings from the raw bar.
The shrimp tempura, BBQ eel and Spice Market roll were our favourites, all deliciously fresh and vibrant-looking on our plates. The sushi chefs were all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, answering all our questions about the preparation and talking us through the menu. This kind of set up would be perfect for the date, with any awkwardness being set off by the theatre going on behind the Sushi Bar (and a couple of sake cocktails of course).
Speaking of cocktails, the list at Spice Market is filled with interesting options, we suggest going for a couple of the restaurant’s signature cocktails such as the Spicy Thai Mary or Kumquat Mojito. Plus, don’t be afraid to ask for something off the menu, our waiter took our favourite flavours and had a cherry-infused concoction rustled up on the spot.
On top of the fresh sushi, great cocktails and friendly staff, there’s the added bonus of every plate being passed straight over the counter by the sushi chefs, which meant no waiting around. This is fast food, but not as you know it…
