In amongst the buzzing pubs and the fabric shops of Wentworth Road, a new Greek restaurant is causing a stir. The Hungry Donkey has barely been open a month but on the Friday we visited, by 8pm the tables were full with punters enjoying classic Greek dips, warm pitta breads and the range of meat dishes that the Greek’s do so well.

Until we entered and were greeted by the friendly hotel staff and directed to the lounge area to enjoy a drink, some canapes and wait for our table in the relaxed furnishings. The sofas were distressed, the walls were adorned with traditional landscape paintings and there was a roaring fire at one end of the room. It had the perfect country manor feel. Whilst enjoying delicious winter Pimms cocktails we discovered a little box, which had an unusual opening mechanism. After spending a few m...

Soho in particular is filled with it; in every nook and cranny, every tiny rentable space in the area, up pops a ramen bar. Often not much more than a few wooden stools scattered round some tables, with a modest kitchen out back, the restaurants are mostly simple with no frills. But I like the lack of pretention and the simplicity of these spots. The emphasis is almost always on the food, which naturally shines through. However, with so many to choose from, how will you know where you can find real quality and t...
