The recent refurbishment of the Great Northern Hotel and its bar has seen a return to the glamour of yesteryear and the era of rail road hotels. The revamp, headed by Dexter Moren and Archer Humphryes, has taken the space and turned it into a chic and stylish destination, somewhere to cosy up and while away before dashing off to the next destination – wherever that may be.
Located directly opposite St. Pancras International and on the doorstep of King’s Cross Station the GNH bar offers something that is completely lacking in the surrounding area. There is nowhere else quite like it to grab a drink or small bite, be it on arrival or departure, and the convenience is undeniable.
The dark wooden tables and dual-tone tile floor add a rich sense of character that is evident as soon as you walk through the door. The mirrored ceilings give a vast sense of space and allow a glimpse of what’s going on in the world outside while light dances around, reflecting off the chandeliers.
Their spirit’s list is worth a look as it’s rather extensive for a rail hotel bar or choose something a little more interesting from the cocktail menu, perhaps even champagne?
Next time you’re about to be whisked away have a pre-travel cocktail, stop, and stare – it always makes the trip more interesting.
