Meat sweats, high cholesterol, weight gain, indigestion. These are just some of the side-effects caused by regularly consuming high levels of meat, but do we care? I think not.
Bodeans is a typical example of a carnivores haven, with mighty dishes guaranteed to bring out the caveman in anyone.
I went to a dinner with other food lovers at the Tower Hill branch to sample some of that much talked about menu.
The atmosphere is busy, busy, busy which clearly is a good sign (it was only 7pm on a weekday too). I could hear the receptionist every 5 mins saying ‘I’m sorry but it’ll be a 30 minute wait’ to every punter walking in.
The menu is extremely extensive but pretty much focuses on high dosage of protein-infested plates and a variety of animal flesh.
It was so hard to decide when items such as ribs, wings, thunder thighs, nachos, 8 kinds of meat sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and steaks are right in your face .. taunting you.
For starters, I went for a portion of ’6 large buffalo wings’ served extra hot with their ‘diablo’ sauce. They weren’t exaggerating by calling them ‘large’ , in fact they were under selling because these were the biggest chicken wings I had ever seen (no wonder why the waiter was looking at me as if I were crazy when I was contemplating ordering another starter). I’m very fussy with buffalo wings and I’m even fussier with the sauce they’re served with, when I order ‘hot’, that’s’ what I expect (no messing about) and these were to my liking. The meat fell off the bone right and there was not a dry bit in sight (or taste).
I decided to put the middle finger up to meat by ordering some fish. Why you ask? because it wasn’t just any old fish on offer, but a rather delectable swordfish, and it’s very rarely seen on a menu these days (especially in a casual diner). It was a Cajun blackened swordfish with pan fried okra, cherry tomatoes and a mango salsa (oh and I had to be greedy by asking for some rice). This was exotic, well-seasoned, flavoursome light in taste (yet filling) and I would definitely come back and order it again.
Everyone should go to Bodeans at least once, it’s just that kind of place which offers a great buzzing atmosphere, a fun informal setting, a gigantic menu full of life-size meats, affordable prices and more – all under one roof.
That’s the reason why it’s a legend in it’s own right.
They have four branches across London so do check out their website
