Whiskey, barbecue, seafood and a crabshack- mixed with great drinks and live music… Covent Garden’s latest addition looks set to be a roaring amount of fun as the Chelsea institution, Big Easy Bar.B.Q & Crabshack, opens its newest venture on Maiden Lane
Located in a former electrical power station built in 1883 the interior honours the building’s original heritage. Many authentic features have been retained like the exposed brick walls, copper conduits and steel and concrete girders with a little industrial lighting added in for a bit of flair. The exposed wooden beams, neon lobster signs and Americana touches add to the authentic southern feel.
This formidable and awe-inspiring space is set over three floors, one of the central features is the nine metre, theatre-style kitchen situated on the lower ground floor. The focus is on a ‘wall of fire’, comprising two, 2.5 metre Argentinean-style parilla charcoal grills as well as a two-metre rotisserie spit that can roast whole hogs, alongside a huge 2.5 metre wood burning oven. The dedicated Bar.B.Q pit houses two J&R wood burning smokers imported from Texas, meat is smoked over 18 hours with a variety of woods such as oak, hickory, apple and cherry, imparting their unique flavour. It wouldn’t be Big Easy without lobsters and theirs are sourced, year round, from Nova Scotia for their consistency, quality and flavour.
The impressive bar boasts over 500 bottles with the focus mainly on domestic and American whiskeys, as well as rare tequila, rum, liquor and French and Spanish brandy. Imported, purpose built cocktail machines dispense frozen Margaritas and other well loved cocktails, best of all… Manhattans and Old Fashioneds on tap.
Live music will happen seven nights a week with a few different sets a night This will truly be a return to extravagant social dining of a bygone age, with great food, drinks and music, in an unforgettable setting.
Yummy!
