BACARDÍ certainly knows how to pull out all the stops! To celebrate well ‘bringing back pool parties and going back to what they do best’ they took out 1,862 people (the number of years BACARDÍ has been around), a combination of influencers, musicians, journos and competition winners to an exotic location; Puerto Rico. The location was no coincidence either, it just so happens to be the home of rum and it’s also where BACARDÍ has their biggest distillery – how very apt, all the pieces of this jigsaw were coming together for an experience of epic proportions, a weekend of pure fun in the sun!
Having already chartered flights from London, NYC and LA, the number three played a key role throughout the weekend, three nights, three chartered flights, three musicians. It turns out three was a nod to BACARDÍ’s iconic Cuba Libre cocktails key ingredients, BACARDÍ rum, coke and lime.
With endless pool parties, at the El Conquistador resort where we were staying and which of course BACARDÍ had taken over, we occupied our time lounging, sipping pina colada’s, cuba libre’s and other punch cocktails whilst listening to various DJ’s playing tunes throughout the day. We also discovered a secret infinity pool on our travels around the resort which literally made us feel on top of the world against the most beautiful backdrop. Friday evening was Halloween so face painted and in our most ghoulish getup (had to workshop our limited beach wardrobes so Melissa Odabash kaftan was a huge saviour – thank goodness for black lace), we headed out for the “Black Magic Halloween Pool Party” held at the hotel’s private water park where The Cuban Brothers performed yet another awesomely energetic set and we were ready to PARTY the night away!
The finale to this elaborate Halloween weekend was their very own live music festival BACARDÍ Triangle at Palamino Island, a private island that was previously a location spot for Pirates of the Caribbean. Music came courtesy of Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar and headline act superstar DJ Calvin Harris. Festival producers Broadwick Live (famous for Snowbombing in the Austrian Alps and Festival No.6 in the UK) were responsible for bringing BACARDÍ’s vision to life.
BACARDÍ Triangle was inspired by it’s history with music, pool parties and prohibition parties in the 20s in Cuba, after all this is what they have been doing for over 100yrs. Dmitry Ivanov (Group Category Vice President, Rum) told us they were creating a new and different experience as opposed to sponsoring because “We just like having cool parties, it’s in the DNA of the brand”. He also hinted that there was much more in the pipeline, “this is just the beginning there’s more to come, we’re resuming what we have done in the past, there’s much more excitement to come! This is the first of the big chapter”.
This whole travel music event experience was BACARDÍ setting the bar and reminding others that they are in control, sponsoring festivals is done, they are instead curating unique experiences from scratch that are standalone.
We can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeves BACARDÍ, please do keep us on your guestlist…
