Striking and conceptual, designer Ivana Pilja presents her AW13 collection, making her debut to London audiences, hailing originally from Belgrade, Serbia.
SEMI SONG is the designer’s second collection, inspired by the Japanese cicada, locally named Semi. Intriguing and intense, these captivating creatures are a direct representation of Ivana Pilja’s collection as she experiments in embracing new forms of costume. The diverse range of colours and prints bear a strong connection to the uniqueness of the Semi cicada, the diversity of life, and evolution.
Accolades for the collection include being awarded best designer of the season, having won two awards for her first collection from Elle Magazine.
As a featured designer in Nathalie Grolimund’s book, Fast Forward Fashion: Where Fashion Defies Function, Ivana Pilja returns with a renewed vision and desire to continue pushing the boundaries of beauty and design.
“I like to approach everything I do in a very futuristic way – drawing inspiration from shapes, nature, and the idea of translating fashion through these different forms of biodiversity. We must make our own trends by always thinking forward and being true to our visions and true to ourselves.”
Having been bowled over by this designer’s powerful avant garde aesthetic, I recently featured a piece from the collection in my recent shoot with DAISY LOWE for FAULT MAGAZINE. Watch this space for more from the designer who is definitely a ‘One to Watch’!
