Antonio Marquez is a London based fashion designer best known for his perfectly designed quilted handbags.
After Sourcing the ideal manufacturer and suppliers throughout Italy and France-Paris, Antonio Marquez made his debut handbag collection in 2012, called THE ULTIMATE QUILTING.
Antonio Marquez bags are founded on intelligent design for the discerning 21st century men & woman. Who seek elegance and quality and who’s time is one of the most valuable assets. The brand focuses on designing iconic items, with a philosophy based on the idea that:
“Time is the most valuable assets one can consume”
Time acts as the fourth dimension that optimises functionality and defines the Antonio Marquez signature quilted aesthetic: each hour of the day is captured by it’s own stitched quilted line.
Where are you and what did you do today?
I’m in East London at the moment at my studio in Dalston. Today we shot a very exciting campaign A/W14-15 that I have been looking forward to shoot for the brand. I was very lucky to work closely with a great team of talented artists that made the shoot a success!
Who is on the top of your best-dressed list?
Diane Kruger, Kristen Stewart, Daphne Guinness and Keira Knightley they are all very different but each one inspires me in a very special way.
Can you tell us what inspired you to start Antonio Marquez?
My Mother had a lot of influence on me when I was growing up as a kid, she worked as a runway model and would always be very well dressed, I guess it started there. In some way, I always felt exposed to the industry but I didn’t know it at the time. I then started a music band at the age of 16. I would design the outfits of the guys in the band and sing. After leaving the band at the end of high school, I realized that fashion was what I wanted to do. So then I did a BA in fashion, moved to Vancouver, New York City and then London where I studied at LCF and Central St. Martins establishing myself and the brand.
What’s your favorite hangout in London & Worldwide?
Home!…haha I mean I love to be at home when I can but also Shoreditch is an area with a lot of energy and inspiration, which I like too. In the world it would have to be Tulum, Mexico, the only place in the world where I can forget about time…
Chanel or Alexander McQueen?
I see my designs with some influence of both of these two diverse worlds of fashion. I love the story behind Chanel and the brand, with McQueen it’s more of the vision of what fashion represents for the fashion house but I felt a lot more influenced by McQueen himself when he was still around. He was the DNA of the brand.
Can you give us one word you can use to describe fashion?
What’s in store for the next year?
More Handbags and launching women’s and menswear
What do you do to get away from everything?
When I have the time, I go rock climbing, I run, read and go to the cinema. I love the cinema.
What was the last thing that really made you stop and stare?
Good question! haha I saw a kid asking for money in Old Street, he must have been 6 years old, cold covered in a blanket, I mean watching this in a first world country is quite shocking.
