So we are super exited to hear Martin Morales, the founder of Ceviche, is opening a second site: Andina. This time in Shoreditch, Andina has been inspired by ‘picanterias’ which are traditional, Peruvian, family-run, community restaurants, serving local people all day long. It will focus on delivering healthy, Andean cuisine from breakfast through to dinner.
I love the fact the Morales credits his “Andina” grandmother, for many of his recipes and passion for cooking. Due to the fact that superfoods lie at the heart of these dishes, Andina will look to combine Peruvian ingredients with locally sourced, seasonal British produce to create nutritious, as well as (no doubt) delicious dishes.
Expect offerings like Quinoa Burguesa (quinoa burger, coriander, papaya, mint, kiwi yogurt & huacatay sauce), and Solterito (traditional salad from Arequipa with broad beans, queso fresco cheese, giant kernel corn, tomatoes & sacha inchi oil).
At 88 covers it will comprise of three main areas: an open kitchen and communal dining area with a breakfast bar, the main dining area downstairs, and a “Music Room” to eat, drink and work in, which will house over 2,000 rare Peruvian funk, cumbia and psyche 7-inch singles from the 60s and 70s.
Now, I have no idea what Peruvian funk sounds like, but with small dishes starting at £3.50 and cocktails at £7, it seems like the perfect place to find out!
Andina opens officially on the 5th December 2013.
