Renowned chef Ben Orpwood (previously at Zuma and Roka) is about to give 34 restaurant in Mayfair a tantalising taste of the southern hemisphere. For 6 days only Ben will be popping up within 34 and transforming their menu.
Head Chef of 34, Harvey Ayliffe, is excitedly adding Ben into his brigade for a few days in May to helm this foray into the orient. A few 34 stalwarts will remain (steaks, lobster mac and shrimp cocktail), but the mainstay of the menu will be Ben’s dishes. The raw bar will offer sharing plates with sashimi, scallops with yuzu & soy granita and tuna tataki. The Robata grill will come into its own during the stint – fish skewers, spicy barbecue octopus, Ben’s own hot smoked salmon with pickled ginger and British shellfish with XO sauce will be served, amongst other dishes. Mains will include salt and pepper lamb cutlets and Japanese beef fillets.
As a great fan of the pastry section, Ben will be working closely with Pastry Chef Alice Hall to offer a diverse and mouth-watering dessert menu including doughnuts, ice creams, peanut crunch bar, cheesecake and Ben’s yuzu and frozen marshmallow and chocolate tofu.
Ben’s extensive travelling has influenced his cooking especially Asian cooking style and we for one can’t wait to see what he has got in store for his short stint at 34.
